We designed the Emergency app with digital accessibility in mind as we aim to achieve the Web Content Accessibility 2.2 AA Guidelines so that everyone can use it. Here’s how the Emergency app supports digital accessibility:
- The app works with your device’s built-in accessibility features. It is screen reader compatible and can be used in landscape mode.
- For example, for people who are blind or have low vision: the app works with screen readers like TalkBack (Android) and VoiceOver (iOS) to read alerts aloud or read aloud preparedness content.
- For example, for people who are Deaf or hard of hearing: the app can use flash notifications (if turned on in your device settings) to provide visual alerts.
- We also conduct yearly accessibility audits to check how well the app meets accessibility standards, and we make improvements based on those results.
